Every now and again I will walk into Ross and find an unexpected treasure. I found this blue denim dress hiding among the other dresses in the front and fell in love with it. I loved the ruffled top with the cream buttons and lace. Even though I thought it needed something extra to pump up the jam I had to buy it since it was only $13.99.
Right after Sailor and I strolled (Sailor really was in her stroller) over to Hobby Lobby, where I get almost all of my Etsy and craft supplies. I walked around the fabric section and found some cream lace and thought it would look perfect around the bottom of the dress, so I got a yard and 1/2 which was exactly what I needed. I think it ties in well with the lace on top of the dress and it also adds length to the dress and I like that.
After the lace was added and I put on the dress I still thought it could use more, and maybe a pop of color. Two colors I have been absolutely loving lately are spearmint green and burnt coral. I found the perfect fabric at Hobby Lobby once again and started making some fabric brooch pins. I love both of the colors. These pins and stretch headband are also available in my Etsy shop. Check it out by clicking here.
This dress from Modcloth reminded me a little bit of my dress (Only it costs about three times more than mine). Also cute!
Sometimes I don't think you can ever add too much! I also plan on wearing my anna creek green station belt from Ruche with my denim dress.
I hope to find some more affordable gems at Ross soon.
Please let me know if you have any questions on how to add lace to the dress or anything else.
All of the pictures were taken by my husband Sterling Morris, he is an amazing photographer!
Kendra you are so dang amazing, I know nothing about fashion and you make it seem so easy. I have a hard time finding dresses that are long enough so I love the lace idea. Did you just sew it on the top with a like color thread? I would love to know how to did that! I want to go to ross now... AND hobby lobby!!
ReplyDeleteHey Meka! yes, it is hard to find dresses that are long enough. The lace added a few inches! Yes I just used thread that matched the dress and did a close stitch the entire way around. I sewed it on top of the dress. I think I'll do it to a few more dresses.
